INNER VOICES UNLEASHED.
COMMUNITIES CONNECTED.
Beyond Speech Initiative, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (T.I.N. 99-1280472) dedicated to empowering Nonspeaking individuals through access to alternative communication, public education, and building supportive communities for Nonspeaking, Minimally Speaking, and Unreliably Speaking individuals and their families.
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower Nonspeaking, Minimally Speaking, and Unreliably Speaking individuals with tools and support for effective communication and growth. We foster community connections through events and partnerships, providing spaces for shared experiences and resources.
More about our mission:
Beyond Speech Initiative is dedicated to transcending traditional notions of communication by recognizing its multifaceted nature. We believe that communication extends beyond speech, encompassing diverse modalities and expressions. Through innovative approaches tailored to each individual's unique strengths and abilities, we strive to cultivate an environment of understanding, respect, and inclusion. We champion the principle of presumption of competence, affirming the inherent value and capabilities of every person we serve.
By offering access to communication tools such as letterboards and employing teaching methods that go beyond conventional therapy services, we aim to unlock the voices and talents of nonspeakers. Together, we are shaping a world where everyone's communication needs are met, and where every voice is recognized, honored, and celebrated. Join us as we embark on this transformative journey to create a more equitable and compassionate society for all.
DONATE TODAY:
-Scholarships for local Nonspeaking & Minimally Speaking individuals to access alternative communication (i.e., spelling to communicate/letterboards)
-Community building for Nonspeaking individuals and their families in NE Ohio
-Public education on global Apraxia & helping to shift the inaccurate assumption that non-speaking means non-thinking
WHERE YOUR DONATIONS MAKE A DIFFERENCE...
Your donations make a tangible impact on the lives of Nonspeaking, Minimally Speaking and Unreliably Speaking individuals (collectively referred to as "Nonspeaking") and their families. A significant portion goes towards providing scholarships (see more information below) for spellers to work with highly trained S2C Practitioners who are Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), Occupational Therapists (OTs), or S2C Practitioners who are guided by these therapists. The specialized training is crucial in helping Nonspeaking individuals unlock their potential and develop effective communication skills.
Additionally, your support helps fund community events specifically designed for Nonspeaking individuals and their families to connect, share experiences, and access valuable resources. These events provide invaluable opportunities for building relationships, fostering understanding, and creating a sense of belonging within the community.
A portion of the donations also goes towards supporting public education initiatives aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of apraxia and letterboards in the wider community. By promoting public education, we can raise awareness, dispel myths, and foster acceptance of diverse communication methods.
Your generosity enables us to continue our mission of empowering nonspeaking individuals and advocating for their needs. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who rely on our support. Thank you for your support!
